CASTINE--The Maine Maritime Academy women's and men's swimming & diving teams celebrated its home opener on Thursday at Bok Pool with a sweep of local rival Husson University, with the former winning 116-105 and the latter taking a 124-97 victory. The Mariners captured eight women's events and six on the men's side.
Both MMA teams registered season high in total points.Â
JuniorÂ
Rayelle Brewer led the way with three wins in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes and 10.49 seconds, 100-free in 1:00.46 and as the first leg in the women's 400-free relay in 4:08.36. ClassmateÂ
Kylie Cantlon also had a trio of victories in the 1000-free (12:39.8), 500-free (6:15.1) and as a third-leg member of the 400-free relay. SeniorsÂ
Liza Zhukov also were victorious in the 100-backstroke in 1:09.49 andÂ
Sage Dentremont in the 100-breaststroke in 1:24. In addition, freshmanÂ
Natalie Cady and Zhukov contributed to the winning 400-free relay squad.
Maine Maritime dominated the 1-meter diving as seniorÂ
Natasha Kopeck scored 192.3 points and the men placed first-second with sophomoreÂ
Oliver Cox and freshmanÂ
Michael Ordonez tallying 213.95 and 208.2 points, respectively. Cox just missed a school benchmark with his performance.
On the men's side, juniorÂ
Jay Creegan claimed a double in the 1000-free (10:58.36) and 500-free (5:13.63). SophomoreÂ
John Driscoll chalked up a win in the 50-free in 23.13 seconds, while seniorsÂ
Carson Trout andÂ
Aidan Walls were winners in the 100-free (49.3) and 100-breast (1:07.51), respectively.
Maine Maritime will take the Thanksgiving break before preparing for the State of Maine meet held in Bangor on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7.
