COLCHESTER, Vt.--The Maine Maritime Academy men's and women's swimming & diving teams dropped a pair of non-conference meets in Vermont over the weekend. In men's action, Maine Maritime lost at Norwich University in Northfield on Saturday, 176.5-110.5, and then fell at NCAA Division II Saint Michael's College this afternoon, 193-99. On the women's side, the Mariners fell both to the Cadets, 187-95, and Purple Knights, 228-54.
Against the NU women, junior
Rayelle Brewer picked up a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 12 minutes and 15.14 seconds, and she was second in the 100-free in 1:01.39. Classmate
Natasha Kopeck (100 backstroke, 1:08.29) and freshman
Katherine Griffin (200 breaststroke, 2:57.13) also picked up victories.
On the men's side versus the Cadets, sophomore
Oliver Cox (210.35 points) and freshman
Michael Ordonez (159.50) occupied the top two spots in 1-meter diving. They also did the same in another 1m diving event with Cox earning 144.5 points and Ordonez making 125.55. Senior
Carson Trout also won the 100-butterfly in 55.45 seconds.
Against the SMC men, Trout captured the 50-free in 22.37. Cox (149.65) and Ordonez (138.75) ranked 1-2 again in 1m diving, while the former claimed first in a later 1m diving competition with a 194.85 score.
Kopeck took home a pair of women's 1m diving events with a 131.40 and 183.80.
Maine Maritime is back in action on Thursday, Nov. 21, when it hosts Husson University in the home opener at Cary W. Bok pool in Castine. The dual meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
