BANGOR, Maine--The Maine Maritime Academy women's and men's swimming & diving teams had solid performances at Sunday's fourth annual Husson University Eagles Relays at Webber Pool.
The Mariners won both women's and men's divisions in the 200-yard backstroke. Seniors
Liza Zhukov,
Natasha Kopeck, junior
Kylie Cantlon and sophomore
Claire MacDonald completed the race in 2 minutes and 10.7 seconds. For the winning men's side, senior
Nicholas Been,
Carson Trout, sophomore
John Driscoll and freshman
Luis Guillen Barcia led the way in 1:49.91.
Maine Maritime took spots two and three in the men's 200-freestyle. Seniors
Griffin Erb,
Ryan Maher, junior
Fox Fernald and Trout were second in 1:35.08, while junior James Creegan, sophomore
Brennden Dion, freshman
Nathaniel Gibbons and Driscoll were third in 1:37.44.
In the women 200 butterfly, senior
Eva Schulz, freshman
Abigail Cormier, Cantlon and MacDonald led MMA to second place in 2:17.74. On the men's side in the event, senior
Aidan Walls, sophomore
Joshua Been, Fernald and Guillen Barcia were third in 1:50.16.
The Mariners were runner-up in the 200-medley relay with junior
Aidan Burke, Driscoll, Maher and Trout combining for 1:44.11. In the 400-medley, Gibbons, Guillen Barcia, Maher and Walls were second in 4:09.93.
Maine Maritime also did well in mixed races including the 400-medley and 400-free. In the former, MMA was second with Driscoll, freshman
Katherine Griffin, Trout and Cantlon in 4:21.25 and third with Zhukov, Burke, Maher and Kopeck in 4:23.80. In the latter, the Mariners were second with Erb, Kopeck, Cantlon and Walls in 3:57.33, while senior
Eva Schulz, junior
Jay Creegan, Gibbons and MacDonald placed third in 4:02.64.
The men 200-breaststroke relay of sophomore
Oliver Cox, Burke, Erb and Walls also placed second in 2:05.03.
Maine Maritime is in action again on Saturday (11 a.m.) at the Roger Williams University Invitational in Bristol, R.I.
