CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country finished third in the 2022 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship race hosted by SUNY Canton, with top-10 finishes from seniors
Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine),
John Hassett (Castine, Maine) and sophomore
Ponce Saltysiak (Bar Harbor, Maine).
How it Happened: Hassett paced the Mariners, finishing fifth out of 74 runners, with a time of 27:00.5 on the 8k course. Butterfield crossed the finish line immediately after teammate Hassett, in sixth place, with a time 27:00.6. Saltysiak cracked the top-10 with a 10th place finish, crossing the line with a time of 27:25.5.
Senior
William Procko (Branford, Fla.) finished 23rd with a time of 29:05.6 and first-year
Cooper Parlee (Brewer, Maine) rounded out the top-five finishers, finishing 27th in his first championship race, with a time of 29:18.6.
Inside the Numbers: SUNY Delhi claimed the 2022 NAC Men's Cross Country Championship finishing with a team score of 37 and total time of 2:15:43, the University of Maine at Farmington finished second with a team score of 61 and total time of 2:18:34, and Maine Maritime Academy rounded out the top three with a team score of 71 and total time of 2:22:02. Delhi's John Amenta and Seth Bywater finished first and second respectively, with times of 26:18.7 and 26:29.2, while Thomas College's Jarrod Hooper finished third with a time of 26:37.0.
