CASTINE, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving team placed second out of four teams in the two-day North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Virtual Invitational inside of Bok Pool.
The Mariners competed against the Eagles from Husson University, the Broncos from SUNY-Delhi and the Wildcats from Cazenovia College, in the two-day virtual event that spanned Friday to Sunday, with each team competing on their respective campuses.
Maine Maritime finished second with a team score of 591, just behind Husson University who took the team win with a score of 604.
During the meet the Mariners honored their lone senior, Keith Jordan (Waltham, Maine).
- The relay team of Patrick McEneaney (Suffolk, Va.), Max Mattson (Blue Hill, Maine), John Gilpin (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Jace Chouinard (North Fort Myers, Fla.) placed second in the 200 yard freestyle and set a pool record with a time of 1:36.41
- John Egger (Marion, Mass.) won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:43.40
- McEneaney took second in the 100 yard IM with a time of 59:39
- Jordan finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.47 just ahead of teammate Mattson who finished fourth (1:21.55)
- The relay team of Cameron Sprott (Hampton, Va.), McEneaney, John Markillie (Richland, Wash.) and Chouinard took first in the 400 yard medley with a time of 3:52.64
- Sprott finished first and set a pool record in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.06, just ahead of teammate Markillie who finished second (56.20)
- Chouinard placed second and set a pool record in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.72, ahead of McEneaney who finished third (1:51.33) and Jordan who finished forth (2:27.61)
- Sprott took the top spot in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 26.73
- The relay team of Sprott, McEneaney, Markillie and Chouinard finished second and set a pool record in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:46.16
- Egger took the top spot in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:45.94
- Markillie claimed the top spot in the 200 yard IM and set a pool record with a time of 2:07.19
- Chouinard finished second and set both a pool and team record in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.01, just ahead of teammate McEneaney, who placed third (50.16)
- Markillie took the top spot and set a pool record in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.19
- The relay team of Markillie, Chouinard, Sprott and McEneaney finished first and set a pool record in the 800 yard freestyle with a time of 7:37.63
- Sprott took the top spot in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.50
- The relay team of Sprott, Egger, Markillie and Egger placed second in the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:43.20
The Mariners wrap up their season on Friday night with another virtual meet against the University of New England at 5:00 pm.
