Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. - Maine Maritime Academy Volleyball picked up their fifth-straight three-set victory on Friday night with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-10) victory over non-conference opponent, Purchase State College.
In the first set, the Mariners were led by seven service aces by Jessica Menges (Old Forge, N.Y.), on their way to the commanding 25-10 win. Gillian O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) recorded back-to-back kills to send the Mariners to a 25-11 second set win. Tess Clark (Spring, Texas) sent the Mariners to a 25-10 victory in the final set with seven service aces out of eight serves.
O'Neal ended the night with a double-double, leading all players with 13 kills and 10 digs. Clark added nine kills, and three digs. Melissa Spaulding (Fairbanks, Alaska) recorded 30 assists, two aces, one kill and one dig.
Victoria Blum recorded five digs for Purchase State, while Alex Lally added six assists and Jade Hackett chipped in with two blocks and two kills.
The Mariners (6-3) will travel to Kings Point, New York tomorrow to compete in the two-day 6th Annual Maritime Classic hosted by Merchant Marine. Maine Maritime will take on SUNY Maritime tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., and Massachusetts Maritime and Merchant Marine on Sunday.
