BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Maine Maritime senior Matt Methot ran his fastest 8K of the season (26:12.86) to finish fourth, and propelled the Mariners to a sixth place finish at the Bowdoin College Invitational Saturday.
Methot, racing against runners from nationally ranked teams Bowdoin (No. 5), Bates (No. 7) and Tufts (No. 11), was 44 seconds off Tufts Ben Wallis. Wallis led the field of 129 runners by navigating the fast, flat course in 25:28.52.
Methot was the fastest North Atlantic Conference runner at the meet, which also had Colby-Sawyer, Husson and Maine-Farmington competing.
Bowdoin won the 10-team race by placing five runners in the top 10. Tufts, UMass-Dartmouth, Colby-Sawyer and Bates rounded out the top five.
Vijay Kataria placed 39th for the Mariners with 28:17.04. George Morrison was 13 seconds off his teammate, with 28:30.87, to place 43rd. Cameron Roy finished two seconds ahead of Chase Reidelbach to give Maine Maritime a 71st and 72nd finisher. Roy crossed in 30:10.81 and Reidelbach in 30:12.11.
The Mariners return to action Saturday at the Colby Invitational.
