Castine, Maine - The Lady Mariner Volleyball team hosted Husson
University and Eastern Nazarene College for two non-conference
match-ups Saturday at Margaret Smith Gymnasium. MMA won both
matches; Husson split their two matches, while Eastern Nazarene
lost a pair.
In the first match the Lady Mariners beat the Eastern Nazarene
College Lions by the score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, and 25-20).
Freshman middle hitter Melissa Lail (Elizabeth, CO) led MMA with 11
kills on 20 attempts (.450%) while junior outside hitter Chelsea Ward (Homer, AK) contributed 10 kills on 17 attempts (.529%).
Sophomore setter Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, MD) played well
collecting 19 assists while junior setter Heather Moore (Macedon,
NY) collected nine assists and nine digs. Kerri Sullivan (Cranston,
RI) led the team with 15 digs.
Amber Burns (Fall River, MA) led the Lions with nine kills while
Kaitlyn Yoder (Smithburg, MD) led Eastern Nazarene College with
five assists. Burns and Allison Auperlee (Quincy, MA) each had 10
digs in the match to lead ENC.
In the second match of the day, the Eagles of Husson University
defeated the Lions from Eastern Nazarene College by the score of
3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-20). Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH) led
Husson with 10 kills to go along with seven aces, while Aleta
Johnson (Milton, NH) added 29 assists and 13 digs. Amber Burns led
the Lions with eight kills and nine assists. With the win Husson
improves to 11-1 on the year while the Lions fall to 2-12.
The third match of the day featured the Lady Mariners and the
Eagles going head to head. MMA won the match 3-1 (25-10, 18-25,
25-17, and 25-9). Chelsea Ward led the Lady Mariners with 17 kills
while Melissa Lail added 10 kills. Lauren Sakahara collected 21
digs while Jen Dixon had 29 assists. Ward and Heather Moore each
had four block assists. Hannah Olstad led the eagles with 10 kills
while Johnson added 21 assists. The Lady Mariners improve to 7-6 on
the year while the Eagles drop to 11-2.
