PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy extended its winning ways Friday night with an 87-44 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball matchup at Wieden Gymnasium backed by a career night by senior Evelyn Dagan.

The Mariners (12-6 overall, 11-1 NAC) used a balanced offensive attack and steady defense to pull away from Presque Isle (2-15, 1-11 NAC), leading from start to finish.

Dagan led the Maine Maritime scoring with 20 points on an efficient night, going 7-of-10 from the field and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. With her third made 3-pointer in the first half, Dagan surpassed Melinda Odgen for the most 3-pointers made in a Mariners uniform. Additionally, Dagan became the 12th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career doing so in the third quarter of Friday's conference bout.

Senior Jacquelin Castro added 13 points, while junior Blanchard chipped in 10. The Mariners drilled 16 three-pointers as a team and shot 42.1 percent from distance en route to the decisive victory.

Maine Maritime led 23-6 after one quarter and maintained control throughout, outscoring UMPI in every period to record its 11th conference win of the season.

The Mariners return to action Saturday, hitting the road to face Husson University at 5 p.m. in another North Atlantic Conference showdown.
