Men’s swimming & diving finishes fourth at Roger Williams Invite

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving team returned to the pool on Saturday, finishing fourth at the Roger Williams Invite.

The Mariners totaled 117 points, trailing host Roger Williams, who won the event with 627 points, Bridgewater State University, who placed second with 177, and Eastern Connecticut State University, who edged out the Mariners with 135.

Maine Maritime opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as freshmen Dominic Miele, Rim Reda, Connor Hedstrom, and Ryan Johnson Rees clocked a time of 1:45.69.

In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman B. Boyer and senior James Creegan finished 13th and 14th, respectively, with times of 1:56.89 and 1:58.05. Reda placed 11th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.31.

Hedstrom impressed in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing runner-up with a time of 22.39, while Johnson Rees posted a 23.58. Hedstrom tallied another top-five finish in the 100-yard butterfly, placing fifth with a time of 53.99.

Johnson Rees clocked a 52.69 in the 100-yard freestyle to finish 15th, and Creegan added an eighth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.76.

Junior Oliver Cox, sophomore Nate Gibbons, Creegan, and Reda placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.36. Hedstrom added his third top-five finish of the day in the 100-yard backstroke, placing fifth with a time of 57.74.

Reda swam to a 12th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.99, while Hedstrom, Boyer, Creegan, and Johnson Rees closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:28.88.

Next up for the Mariners is a trip to Vermont next weekend for back-to-back meets against Norwich University and Saint Michael's College.
