NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Maine Maritime Academy's women's swim team sits in second place in the 11-team field competing at the combined Metropolitan / North Atlantic Conference Championships. Felician University holds a commanding lead with 430 points through the first of three days of swimming. The Mariners rolled up 236.5 points and are trailed by Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) at 193, and Husson University and Hunter College with 183 apiece.
The Mariners started the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard free relay.

Liza Zhukov,
Kylie Cantlon, and
Rayelle Brewer combined for a time of 1:45.81. Felician set the standard in the race with a 1:38.65.
Cantlon and
Eva Schulz gave the Mariners 11
th and 14
th place points in the 500-yard freestyle, while
Claire MacDonald,
Sage Dentremont and
Meadow Hughes gave Maine Maritime eighth, 14
th and 18
th place points in the 200-yard individual medley.
Felician dominated the 50-yard freestyle sweeping the medal stand and taking sixth place in the race. Brewer placed fourth with a 25.63. Felician's Natalia Amano set the gold standard with a 24.19. Zhukov swam to 11
th place points.
Zhukov, Dentremont, MacDonald and Brewer closed the night with sixth place points in the 400-yard medley relay coming in at 4:29.79. Felician's Amano Juliana Kratka, Cleo Kepka, and Amelia Mayers touched in 4:03.19.
Day two of the championships gets underway Saturday morning at 10:00 am.
