Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) led Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country to a 24th place finish out of 36 teams on Saturday morning at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
How it Happened: Butterfield paced the Mariners on the 8k course, placing 80th overall in the 283-person field, with a time of 26:45.11. Sophomore
Ponce Saltysiak (Bar Harbor, Maine) joined Butterfield as a top-100 finisher, placing 95th overall, with a time of 26:55.00.
Senior
John Hassett (Castine, Maine) finished 123rd with a time of 27:23.76, freshman
Cooper Parlee (Brewer, Maine) placed 190th, with a time of 28:41.98. Sophomore
John Beres (Shoreline, Wash.) rounded out the Mariner's top-five finishers, placing 234th overall, with a time of 30:18.94.
Inside the Numbers: UMass-Lowell claimed the top spot with a team score of 65 and a combined time of 2:06:09.23, Connecticut College placed second with a team score of 115 and a total time of 2:07:27.22, and Franklin Pierce rounded out the top three teams, placing third, with a team score of 127 and a total time of 2:06:54.38. Franklin Pierce's Wondu Summa finished first with a time of 23:55.23, Assumption's Claudio Rocha placed second with a time of 24:42.28, and WPI's David Reynolds placed third with a time of 24:44.02.
