SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Mariners placed four runners in the top-10, including two in the top-five, to claim the top spot at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday morning.
How it Happened: Senior
Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) and sophomore
Ponce Saltysiak (Bar Harbor, Maine) finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 87-man field, with times of 27:13 and 27:14, on the 8k course.
Senior
John Hassett (Castine, Maine) finished ninth, with a time of 28:06, while first year
Cooper Parlee (Brewer, Maine) finished in 10th, one second behind Hassett, with a time of 28:07. Senior
William Procko (Branford, Fla.) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Mariners, finishing 14th, with a time of 28:58.
Inside the Numbers: Maine Maritime finished first with a team score of 42, SUNY Cobleskill finished second with a team score of 45, and Nichols College finished third with a team score of 77. Cobleskill's Nick Logan was the top finisher with a time of 26:22. The win marks the second of the season for the Mariners.
