Series History: The Beavers hold a 55-12 all-time advantage over the Mariners and have won seven-straight. When hosting Farmington, the Mariners are 8-23.
Last Meeting: Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to UMaine-Farmington, 80-73 on February 15, 2020, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first half, but the Beavers built a nine-point advantage at 9:47. Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) splashed a three to spark an eight-point run, to tie the game at 24-24 with 7:18 to play. The two teams battled closely for the remainder of the half and entered halftime deadlocked at 33-33.
UMaine-Farmington built a light advantage early in the second half, but the Mariners remained within striking distance and used a pair of free throws from Nicholas DePatsy with under a minute to play close the Beavers' lead to 74-70. The Beavers went a perfect 4-of-4 from the line to preserve the lead and despite a last-second three from Devin Boone, the visitors took the win.
DePatsy led the Mariners with 22 points, five rebounds and an assist, while Reincke ended the evening with 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal, and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) added 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Riley Robinson led the Beavers with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding five assists and three steals, Terion Moss contributed 20 points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal and Jack Kane chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
The Mariners shot 46.7 percent from the floor and 44.0 percent from three-point land, while the Beavers shot 45.8 percent overall and 15.4 percent from behind the arc. The Beavers outrebounded the Mariners 48-27.
Coach McNeely: Dan McNeely enters his fourth season as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Maine Maritime Academy, and is 2-1 with the Mariners in season openers.
New Era for the Beavers: Sam Leal was named the Head Men's Basketball Coach at UMaine-Farmington in April 2020, replacing Coach Dick Meader who had been the Head Coach for 27 years. Leal, a 2014 graduate of UMaine-Farmington, takes over the squad that returns it's top scorer from last season and the 2019-2020 NAC Player of the Year, Terion Moss.
Senior Day: The Mariners will honor their lone senior, Riley Jorgenson, prior to Saturday's game.
