Mariners Place Second at NAC Championships

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country took second place out of nine teams at the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships on Saturday, on the campus of Northern Vermont University-Lyndon.

Sophomore John Hassett (Castine, Maine) placed third out of 87 runners, with a time of 29:10.9 on the 8k course. Junior Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) placed 11th overall with a time of 31:22.3.

Sophomore Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished with a time of 32:05.6 to place 15th, freshman Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) placed 17th with a time of 32:55.2. Sophomore Liam Veverka (Hancock, N.H.) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners in 23rd place with at time of 33:25.6.

SUNY Delhi finished first overall with a team score of 25 with five runners in the top 10, the Mariners placed seconded with a score of 69, Thomas College was third (100), Husson fourth (108), followed by UMaine-Farmington (141), SUNY Canton (145), UMaine-Presque Isle (160) NVU-Lyndon (193), and NVU-Johnson (255).

Delhi's Aiden Berlinski won the NAC Individual title with a time of 28:51.4, nearly 18 seconds ahead of teammate Abshir Yerow who finished with a time of 29:09.3 

The Mariners return to action when they compete in the NCAA Regionals hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 AM.
