Hassett Wins Bowdoin Invitational II

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's cross country finished third out of five teams on Saturday's Bowdoin Invitational II.

Sophomore John Hassett (Castine, Maine) was the top finisher of the 57 runners with a time of 26:21.6 on the 8k course, 12 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Junior Aylen Wolf (Surry, Maine) finished 15th with a time of 28:15.7.

Sophomore Joseph Van Ess (Mechanicsville, Va.) was only two spots behind Wolf in 17th with a time of 28:28.8, while sophomore Liam Veverka (Hancock, N.H.) placed 22nd with a time of 28:58.4, and freshman Benjamin Butterfield (Phillips, Maine) rounded out the top five runners for the Mariners, placing 24th with a time of 29:05.9.

Bowdoin College took home team first place with a score of 31, Bates College placed second with a score of 34 and the Mariners placed third with a score of 77.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday, November 2, when they travel to Vermont to compete in the North Atlantic Conference Championships, hosted by Northern Vermont-Lyndon, scheduled for 11:00 AM.
