Women's Lacrosse Sails to Victory Over Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse cruised to a 19-1 victory over Mitchell College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Field. The 18-goal margin of victory is the team's largest in program history.

With the win Maine Maritime improves to 3-4 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, April 14 at Lyndon State College at 12:00 pm. Mitchell falls to 2-4 overall. 

Madison Savary (Bath, Maine) put Maine Maritime up just 20 seconds into the game, and dished out an assist to Madison Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) one minute later. Maine Maritime never looked back, holding a 13-1 lead at halftime and adding six more goals in the second half, to pick up the 19-1 win.

Savary led all scorers with six points on a hat-trick and three assists, while also adding three ground balls and a draw control. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.), Barry and Shelby O'Neil (Bar Harbor, Maine) each added four goals while Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) contributed a pair of goals. Adams added four draw controls, three ground balls and an assist, Barry contributed a game-high six draw controls an assist and a ground ball and Wilson chipped in with four ground balls and a caused turnover.

Morgan Libby (Brunswick, Maine) added her first career goal to go along with two assists, five draw controls, four ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers and Olivia Le Blanc (Conifer, Colo.) added the other goal for Maine Maritime while also tallying an assist. 

Kate McCormack tallied Mitchell's lone goal and also finished with all six of her team's draw controls while teammate Francesca Pinard recorded an assist and a team-high five ground balls. 

In net Maine Maritime's Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) tallied a pair of saves in the victory, while Mitchell's Gillian MacLellan recorded 10 stops in the loss. 

Maine Maritime held a commanding 32-6 edge in shots, while also dominating from the draw 16-6 and winning the battle of ground balls 19-13.
