Swimming Opens up NCAA Season at Louise Goodrum Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Maine Maritime Academy swimming kicked off their first season of NCAA competition on Saturday at the Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMass-Dartmouth.

The relay team of Joshua Roberts (Saco, Maine), Hayden Sattler (Lamoine, Maine), Patrick McEneaney (Suffolk, Va.) and Brad Tibbetts (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) placed fifth in the 200 yard medley (1:50.35) to lead the Mariners at the non-team scoring event. The team also placed seventh in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:40.89).

Roberts placed fourth in the 50 yard backstroke (27.62) and sixth in both the 100 yard butterfly (1:00,08) and 100 yard backstroke (1:00.32), while Sattler finished fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.03) and fifth in the 50 yard breaststroke (31.46).

On the women's side, the relay team of Audrey Aragon (Miami, Fla.), Julie Cavanaugh (Mendon, Mass.), Alesha Gregoire (Lewiston, Maine) and Kaitlyn Reny (Lewiston, Maine) placed 14th in the 200 yard freestyle relay (2:05.45).

Aragon placed 16th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:30.63), followed closely by Cavanaugh in 19th (1:32.38) and Reny finished 17th in the 500 yard freestyle (6:42.83).

The Mariners return to action next weekend at Colby Sawyer College. The women's team will also face Smith College.
