Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Castleton University used a fourth quarter comeback to overcome Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon, 65-56 in North Atlantic Conference play, inside of Smith Gymnasium.
Castleton jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Mariners fought back to take a narrow 19-18 advantage following a Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) jumper, at the end of the first quarter.
The Mariners held on to their lead for the entire second quarter, holding as much as a six point advantage at 4:32 after Vosburgh sank a 3-pointer. Maine Maritime entered the intermission with a 32-30 lead.
Maine Maritime held a seven-point advantage with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter, but Castleton went on a five-point run to cap off the quarter and cut the deficit to 46-44.
The Mariners held their biggest lead of the game with 8:28 remaining, but the Spartans battled back to outscore Maine Maritime 21-4 and claim the 65-56 victory.
Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) tallied a game-high 16 points, while pulling down six rebounds, dishing out four assists and a steal, and Vosburgh ended the afternoon with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists. Bekah Campbell (Corinth, Maine) recorded a block, the 168th of her career, tying the all-time career record.
duPont led the Spartans with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, two steals and a block, Makayla Farrara added 13 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Lindsay Sabo recorded 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, a block and a steal.
The Mariners fall to 8-7 on the season and 5-4 in the NAC, while the Spartans improve to 12-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, January 26 when they host Maine-Fort Kent at 7:00 p.m., before hitting the road to take on Colby-Sawyer on Friday, January 29 and New England College on Saturday, January 30.
