Pilgrims Down Mariners

HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College held Maine Maritime Academy to just 35 points on Friday night, defeating the Mariners 51-35 in North Atlantic Conference play.

The Mariners struggled in the first half, scoring just 13 points to trail by 18 at the half. The early deficit proved to be too much for Maine Maritime, despite outscoring the Pilgrims 22-20 in the final half.

Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) led the Mariners with a game-high 13 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Teammate Kristi Willey (Topsham, Maine) added eight points and five rebounds, while Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) finished with six points and four rebounds.

Taylor Burgess scored nine points and eight assists to lead the Pilgrims, while Marissa Kopacz led all rebounders with a game-high 14 boards to go along with eight points. 

The loss drops the Mariners to 5-9 on the season and 2-5 in the NAC. With their eighth-straight win the Pilgrims improve to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

Maine Maritime will travel to Colby-Sawyer College tomorrow for another North Atlantic Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m.
