Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Men's Basketball (1-7, 0-3) fell to North Atlantic Conference opponent Castleton (4-3, 2-1) on Friday night 81-61, inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The Mariners used back-to-back Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) three-pointers and five points from Jason Hatch (Islesboro, Maine) to jump out to an 11-8 lead early in the game. The Spartans responded with a 14-unanswered points to build a substantial 22-11 lead. Maine Maritime continued to fight, but Castleton took a 42-22 lead into the half.
Castleton jumped out to a 50-25 lead following a nine-point run in the second half, Maine Maritime closed the gap to 17 points with a little under four minutes remaining in the game, but the lead was too big to come back from and the Spartans took the 81-61 victory.
Holt scored a game-high 20 points for the Mariners, while Hatch and Kyle Boucher (Wayne, Maine) grabbed 11 points each.
The Spartans were led by Rob Coloutti who had a team-high 17 points off the bench, while Carnelius Green added 15 points, and Chad Copeland contributed 12.
Maine Maritime will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Green Mountain at 3:00 PM.
