Men's Harriers Second at Thomas Invite

WATERVILLE, Maine –Maine Maritime Academy's men's cross country team placed second in the field of seven teams at the Terrier Classic Invitational. The five-kilometer race gave the Mariners a preview of the 2013 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship course. NAC rival, Colby-Sawyer College, won the event.

Colby-Sawyer placed four Chargers in the top-ten, producing the first and second place finishers. Hayden Bunnell trumped the field of 78 with a time of 17:01.90, followed by Benjamin Bunnell in 17:07.32. Maine Maritime's Matt Methot (Portland, Maine / Portland) took third place in the individual standings in 17:23.83. He was one of two Mariners in the top five. Freshman George Morrison (Limerick, Maine / Massabesic) logged a 17:58.61 to finish fifth behind Thomas' top-runner, fellow freshman Nick Kopf. Kopf ran a 17:47.54.

Colby-Sawyer placed runners in the eighth and 10th position to put their stamp on the team victory. The Mariners ran just in front of Maine-Farmington. The Beavers finished 14 points behind in the team standings.

Vijay Kataria (Grassy Creek, N.C. / Ashe County) and Chase Reidelbach (Virginia Beach, Va. / Frank W. Cox) ensured the Mariners four runners in the top 20. Kataria logged an 18:27.86 for 13th place, while Reidelbach posted 18:58.05 for 19th. Freshman Victor Skorapa (Freeport, Maine / Freeport) took 22nd in 19:26.00 to round out the scoring five.

Nicholas Darling (Portland, Maine / Deering) and Cameron Roy (Orrington, Maine / Bangor) logged sub-20-minute times of 19:39.06 and 19:58.04, respectively. Darling finished 27th overall, while Roy came in 31st. The Mariners had five additional runners in the top half of the field.

Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday at the University of Southern Maine.
