Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Leah Jackson and Bekah Campbell combined for 10 points in overtime to help Maine Maritime knock off New England College54-47 in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Friday. The Mariners improved to 11-10 overall, 8-6 NAC while the Pilgrims fell to 15-7, 10-5.
Jackson finished with 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Courtney Dufour added 14 points for Maine Maritime and Campbell and Casey Everest each scored seven.
Kate Levy led NEC with 22 and Kayla Lawlor added nine. Taylor Burgess grabbed a team-best 13 rebounds.
After Burgess evened the game at 45-45 early in overtime, Campbell converted a traditional three-point play, Kari Jones connected on a layup and Jackson sank two free throws, to put the Mariners ahead for good 52-45 with 1:37 left.
A pair of Markey Flewelling free throws early the second half put the Pilgrims ahead 32-26 with 14:16 left in the game before two Jackson free throws, and an Everest jumper, made it 32-30 two minutes later. After Levy and Dufour traded threes, Jackson sank two free throws to even the game at 35-35 with 8:14 remaining. The contest was tied two more times in the last four minutes before Jackson put Maine Maritime up 42-40, with 1:02 left. Lawlor then sank two free throws with 35 seconds left which sent the game into overtime knotted at 42-42.
Dufour started the game with a pair of treys to put Maine Maritime ahead 6-0 early in the game. NEC answered with an 8-0 run, bookended by a pair of Levy threes, to lead 8-6 with 15:31 left in the opener. The Pilgrims took their largest lead, 18-9, on a Levy three with 8:24 remaining in the first. Threes from Dufour and Everest got Maine Maritime within three, 18-15, at 7:08 before the Pilgrims took a 23-20 halftime lead.
The Mariners return to the court Saturday hosting Colby-Sawyer at 5 p.m.
