POULTNEY, Vt. – Green Mountain College rode a 16-point halftime advantage to a 74-58 victory in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Eagles improved to 3-4 overall, 2-2 NAC, while the Mariners dropped to 1-9, 0-4.

Green Mountain guard Robert Holloway led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor while also hitting 7-of-9 shots from the charity stripe.  The junior also added eight rebounds and a blocked shot.  Holloway's performance was supplemented by freshman forward Javier Lugris, who notched the second double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Junior forward Terry Jones had 11 points and nine boards while senior guard Cassius Belfon scored 12.

The Mariners' offense was keyed by freshman center Tyler Gilson who popped off the bench for 10 points and eight rebounds.  A pair of freshmen guards also contributed double-digit points for Maine Maritime as Garrett Libby shot 4-of-10 from 3-point land for 12 points, while Dylan Price scored 10 and thieved two passes.

Both teams struggled from the floor at the outset as the Eagles held just a 1-0 advantage until 16:29 of the opening half. before jumping out to a 13-0 advantage six minutes into the game.  That lead would hold up throughout the entire first half and sent the Eagles into the break with a 38-22 lead.

Maine Maritime began to chip away at the lead throughout the second half with seven threes and within 12, 61-49, on a Gilson layup with six minutes left. The Eagles connected on seven free throws in the following four minutes to keep the Mariners at bay and secure the win.

The Mariners return to action Jan. 11 hosting Husson.
