FARMINGTON, Maine -- With four runners finishing in the top 15, Maine Maritime Academy finished in second place among the five teams competing at Maine-Farmington's Mount Blue Invitational on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer led the pack, which was made up entirely of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) teams.
Maine Maritime placed a block of runners between 10th and 13th place. Vijay Kataria (Grassy Creek, N.C.) led the Mariners charge, completing the 8k circuit in 31:47. He was followed across by Cameron Roy (Orrington, Maine) at 31:50, with Wyatt LaPage (Portsmouth, N.H.) crossing 17 seconds later.
Colby-Sawyer sophomore, Hayden Brunnell, ran a scorching 5:33 per mile pace to wrap up first place for the Chargers in 27:36. He was the only runner to come in under 30 minutes. His teammate, Bobby Hoffman, came across at 30:09, while Jon Murray completed the Chargers sweep of the top three spots with a 30:32. Colby-Sawyer runners made up half of the race's top 10 finishers.
Maine Maritime Academy placed six runners in the top 20 in the field of 52. Chase Reidelbach (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran a 32:55 for 14th place, while Evan Vashon (Waterville,Maine) a 33:23 for 16th. Noel Deserres-Gauthier (Dover, N.H.) ran 33:37 for 18th place overall.
The Mariners return to action next weekend at the Unity College Invitational.
