FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of New England men's cross country runners turned in the top four times as the Nor'Easters won the University of Maine at Farmington Invitational Saturday at Mt. Blue High School. Paced by Noel Deserres-Gauthier (Dover, N.H.) 24:17, Maine Maritime Academy finished in third place among the eight teams competing.
Desserres-Gauthier finished in 19th place in the field of 54 runners. MMA had three additional harriers finish in the top 25 to finish with 100 points, 13 behind host Maine-Farmington. Foster Blake (Gorham, Maine) crossed 21st in 24:17, one second ahead of UNE's Jonathan Dupuis and five seconds in front of fellow Mariner, Jurgen Pilot (Bangor, Maine). Wyatt LaPage (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished 25th in 24:43, while Karl Stearns (Northport, Maine) rounded out the Mariners' top-five with a 36th place finish in 26:15.
UNE, claiming five of the first six finishes, totaled 16 points to pull away from the field. The Nor'Easters' Peter LePage paced the 6K race with a time of 21:53 followed by teammates Geoff Wahome (22:00), Shane Murphy (22:05) and Daniel Raboin (22:13). UMPI's Justin Fereshetian broke up UNE's string in fifth at 22:19.
St. Joseph's (Me.) College (119), Unity College (136), University of Maine at Presque Isle (139), Thomas College (145) and University of Maine at Machias (184) rounded out the team scoring.
The Mariners return to action next weekend at the University of New England Invitational.
