BIDDEFORD, Maine – Jurgen Pilot (Bangor, Maine) covered the 8,000-meter course at Rotary Park in 32:56 to finish in 44th place out of the 99 runners competing at the University of New England Invitational on Saturday. Pilot steered his team to a fifth place finish in the 11-team field, while Southern Maine edged the hosts for the team title.
Paced by Julian Gazzeloni's second-place mark of 28:56, the Huskies saw two additional runners finish in the top ten. Lyndon State's Josh Grant scorched the field, finishing 40 seconds ahead of Gazzeloni for first place.
The Mariners landed four runners in the top 50. In addition to Pilot, Wyatt LaPage (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Cameron Roy (Orrington, Maine) crossed 47th and 48th, respectively. LaPage ran a 33:18, while Roy crossed a second later. Foster Blake (Gorham, Maine) finished 50th with a 33:31. Greg Martin (Buxton, Maine) raced the course in 34:13, finishing 55th, to round out the Mariners' top five.
MMA is idle next weekend. The Mariners return to action on September 24th at the Unity Invitational.
