Lady Mariners use stifling defense to defeat Green Mountain 49-30

Castine, Maine --- The Maine Maritime Women's Basketball team got past Green Mountain 49-30 in a North Atlantic Conference game Saturday at Margaret Smith Chase Gymnasium. With the victory, MMA improves to 11-3 in the NAC and captured the #2 seed in the upcoming playoffs next Friday.

The Lady Mariners struggled from the field shooting only 31% and shot a dismal 43% from the free throw line but managed to come away with the win thanks in large part to a great defensive effort. The Lady Mariners forced the Eagles into 34 turnovers and held the visitors to 27% shooting while allowing only 10 field goals. 

MMA improves to 16-9 overall and finishes the regular season at 11-3 in the NAC while the Eagles slip to 7-17 overall and 2-12 in the NAC.

Jessica Stahl (Bowdoin, ME)  led the Lady Mariners with 10 points off the bench on 5 of 8 shooting while Maggie Smith (Bath, ME) chipped in with 8 points and 3 assists. Katie Pushard (Winthrop, ME) and Casey McCloskey (Howland, ME) each had 4 assists while Devyn Curless-Clark (Clinton, ME) led MMA with 8 rebounds and 5 steals.

Chelsea Paul (Northville, NY) led the Eagles with 14 points while senior Emma Brinley-Buckley had 11 points and 13 rebounds in her last collegiate game.
